A prologue, three challenging stages with mountain top finishes, two one-day sections for classic riders - that's how you could summarise the Tour of Austria 2024. The race kicks off on Tuesday 2 July with a 3,000-metre prologue in St. Pölten - a city cycling spectacle in the capital of Lower Austria. In Burgenland, the opening stage will take place on a circuit with start and finish in Bad Tatzmannsdorf. The second stage runs from the Lower Austrian pilgrimage town of Maria Taferl to Steyr in Upper Austria and is ideal for classic cyclists.
The first tough stage awaits the professional cyclists on 5 July, when they head from Styria to Salzburg, from Schladming/Dachstein to St. Johann in Salzburg/Alpendorf. There will once again be a spectacular mountain finish directly on the Geisterberg. Finally, the weekend of 6 and 7 July 2024 will be really high alpine: on Saturday, the Glockner stage from St. Johann in Salzburg/Alpendorf to Osttirol is on the programme - it will be really steep and difficult with a dream backdrop. Kals am Großglockner will be the stage finish of the Tour of Austria for the third time after 1975 and 1982.
There will then be a spectacular Tour finale for the climbers on Sunday, when the route leads from the fortress town of Kufstein through the Inn Valley up to Innsbruck/Kühtai. The overall winner of the Tour of Austria 2024 will be crowned at the end of the final climb, which is over 20 kilometres long and features 1,400 metres of climbing!
