Oberhauser Zirbenwald

excursion/trip for children
various sights
Nationalpark Sehenswürdigkeit

The Oberhauser Zirbenwald is the largest closed pine forest in the Eastern Alps. The extremely slowly growing stone pine can grow up to 1,000 years old, reach a diameter of up to two meters and a height of just over 20 metres. Special schnapps and liqueurs are made from its cones. Local wood carvers almost exclusively use the soft pine wood for their artwork.

The Observation Tower Oberhaus in Defereggental also offers a special nature experience for all ages. High above the treetops, the 22-meter high tower invites you to view across Hohe Tauern National Park and the largest closed pine forest in the Eastern Alps. When looking over the treetops, you might spot an eagle, bearded vulture, deer, chamois or groundhog if you are lucky and patient.

The charming scenery of the closed pine forest can best be experienced during a walk on nature and culture trail Oberhauser Zirbenwald.
